The European training on the methodology of civic monitoring of European structural funds dedicated to environmental projects took place from 10 to 13 September 2021 at the Knos Manufactures in Lecce.
The training saw the participation of the seven organizations that make up the consortium of the “Civic Monitoring for the Future of Europe” project and the Monithon staff as trainers in the civic monitoring methodology. For each participating association, three resources have been formed who will assume the role of organizers and facilitators of the subsequent civic monitoring activities in their respective countries of origin.
Each organization has also selected from the national open-data portals on projects financed through European funds, a local project with an environmental theme to be subjected to a civic monitoring process. The purpose of the activity is to catalyze the attention of citizens on administrative processes related to the implementation of projects financed through European funds to ensure that they are spent efficiently and that the project returns the expected benefits for the community within the which the work is carried out.
The training concluded with a final seminar on climate change and civic activism held by representatives of Greenpeace Italy, Dinamopress, and with a face-to-face talk with an activist from a local section of Greenpeace.
The first civic monitoring session open to citizenship will be held concurrently in all the countries to which the organizations belong and is scheduled for the end of October 2021.
